Harrison Playhouse Lofts—The Rebirth of Downtown Harrison

CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES ON HARRISON PLAYHOUSE LOFTS 

Construction continues on Harrison Playhouse Lofts, the former Harrison movie theater being transformed into 36 luxury apartments and bringing new life to downtown Harrison, NY. Built with state-of-the-art “green” technologies, the new development features fresh-air energy recovery ventilation systems, high-efficiency triple tilt windows, and energy efficient HVAC units for a healthy and comfortable environment. Future residents will enjoy roof terraces, on-site gym and yoga area, community patio and gardens, and a screening room to pay homage to its past.

THE REBIRTH OF DOWNTOWN HARRISON 

The Harrison Playhouse Lofts project is an adaptive reuse of the old Harrison movie theater that has been closed for more than a dozen years. The apartments are situated between Harrison Avenue and Purdy Street. Nearby storefront retail spaces will also be refurbished as part of the project. On the Purdy Street side, the developer plans to add a 5,000 sq. ft. coffee shop.

MEET THE TEAM 

Verco Properties, the developer, broke ground on the project in October 2020. In remarks at the ceremony, Harrison Mayor Ron Belmont praised the development and said, “the rebirth, the renaissance of downtown Harrison is happening today.” “For too long Harrison has had a downtown that did not match the vibrancy of this great town,” said John Verni, a partner at Verco Properties. “Today, that is going to change.” Harrison Playhouse Lofts was designed by noted architect, Stephen Tilly Architects, who is known for their “green building” projects and historical restoration work. As mentioned, the new development will incorporate several environmentally sustainable design elements, making it one of the first Westchester County buildings to satisfy the FitWel™ standard, the world’s leading healthy building certification. Murphy Brothers Contracting is the project’s builder. OLA Consulting Engineers is providing MEP and fire protection engineering services.
