As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering engineering education and real-world collaboration, OLA participated in SUNY Maritime College’s Facilities Engineering Capstone Program. Students engaged with our chiller replacement project at NewYork-Presbyterian Westchester Hospital (formerly Lawrence Hospital) in Bronxville, NY.

The Facilities Engineering Capstone Project gives senior students the opportunity to apply their academic training to active engineering projects. For this initiative, SUNY Maritime students met with the OLA design team, hospital representatives, and surveyed the project site to gain a comprehensive understanding of the project’s scope and technical challenges. The student team conducted in-depth analyses of various system replacement options considering reliability and sustainability, and performed engineering economic evaluations to assess feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
On May 8th, the students presented their findings to a panel of nearly two dozen industry professionals during an in-person session at SUNY Maritime. Following the presentation, the students were faced with challenging questions from the panel, simulating a real-world engineering design review.
The capstone program provides a valuable platform for students to engage with current industry challenges, propose practical solutions, and receive critical input from professionals across engineering disciplines. Through opportunities like this, OLA hopes to continue to support emerging engineers through this program, and others like it.
